100 Meter Dash
Lewis County's Adam Cutlip and Weir's Sebastian Spencer had quite the battle, with Cutlip out quick, Spencer catching up, and finally, Cutlip getting away in the last 5 meters to win it 11.22 to 11.27. No one else was under 11.50 with Bridgeport's Maverick Eddy taking the 3rd spot at 11.53. Philip Barbour's Tanner Faulkiner nipped Wyoming East's Logan Davidson for 4th, 11.61 to 11.62.
RunWV's Current Score: 5 of 6.

200 Meter Dash
Weir's Sebastian Spencer broke open a close race in the final hundred as he burst out of the turn and pulled away for the convincing victory in 21.61, which tied the State Meet Record from 1985 and ties for the 7th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and ties for the 2nd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Lewis County's Adam Cutlip was 2nd in 22.08, which is the 10th Best All-time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Bridgeport's Maverick Eddy was 3rd in 22.63, holding off the late push of Weir's Quincy Dameron's 22.68. Roane's Jordan Coon joined them under 23 seconds with a 22.98.
RunWV's Current Score: 10 of 12.

400 Meter Dash
Shady Spring Freshman Isaiah Valentine came out the turn in 2nd, but powered down the stetch to win by almost a second in 50.17. Frankfort's Briar Cessna just slipped in ahead of Winfield's Phillip Englund, who had led coming out of the turn, 51.12 to 51.13. Wyoming East's Jacob Harris was 4th in 51.44. Winfield's Greg Moore was 5th in 51.58. PikeView's Sebastian Mann took the final spot in 51.73.
RunWV's Current Score: 15 of 18.

800 Meter Run
Winfield's Aaron Withrow grabbed the early lead with North Marion's Michael Garrett fighting him to his inside. At the line, it was Withrow leading at 58 seconds, trailed closely by Shady Spring's Andrew McGlothlin with the same time. Fairmont Senior's Tavian Richardson was in 3rd with Bridgeport's Mark Duez making a move on his outside in 4th, with both at 59. Garrett was in 5th and East Fairmont's Mark Ellis was in 6th, still at 59. On the 2nd lap, they strung out a little, and by the end of the 1st turn, there was a line of 6 with Withrow, McGlothlin, Duez, Ellis, Fairmont Senior's Miguel Figueroa and Garrett leading the pack. Richardson had gotten trapped on the inside and dropped back to 10th before finding his opening. By the 600 meter mark, Withrow had opening a gap, McGlothlin remained in 2nd, just ahead of Duez. Ellis was in 4th with Garrett in 5th and Richardson had fought his way back into 6th. Withrow was running away at this point. He was never threatened and won the race in 1:59.10. Duez made the pass on McGlothin at about 680 meters. Richardson continued his push all the way up to second just after 700 meters, but down the stretch it was Ellis with the kick, coming back from 5th in the last 100 to snag the 2nd spot in 2:00.33. Garrett kicked his way into 3rd in 2:00.55. Duez came out of the turn in 2nd, fell back to 5th and then got one back to finish 4th in 2:00.86. McGlothlin held 5th in 2:01.03, and Richardson took the final spot in 2:01.14. Everyone else was at least 2:04.
RunWV's Current Score: 19 of 24.

1600 Meter Run
It was Weir's Cole Girard out to the early lead with he and Winfield's Aaron Withrow opening a small gap on the rest of the field. Withrow made the pass shortly after coming out of the 2nd turn, and led the lap at 1:02. Girard was in 2nd at 1:03. I think Oak Hill's Seth Crosier was in 3rd with Point Pleasant's Luke Wilson in 4th, Winfield's Luke Lumadue in 5th, and Bridgeport's Mark Duez in 6th, with each passing in 1:05. On lap 2, Withrow took control of the race, stretching his lead out to 5 seconds at 2:10. Things were shifting behind him. Lumadue moved up to 2nd in 2:15 with that time matched by Duez in 3rd. Wilson was in 4th, also at 2:15. Elkins' Mason Clark and Fairmont Senior's Tyler Hayes were in 5th and 6th, respectively, also hitting that time. On lap 3, Withrow held his margin, coming through in 3:17. Lumadue was 2nd at 3:22 with Duez close behind in 3:23. Wilson had just moved back into 4th right before the line in 3:26 with Clark matching that time in 5th. Fairmont Senior's Caleb Carlson had moved into 6th, also at 3:26. On the final lap, Withrow slightly extended his margin by closing in 63 to take the win in 4:20.99, which is the 7th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Duez made the pass on Lumadue with about 150 meters to go and pulled away down the stretch for 2nd in 4:27.07. Lumadue easily held the 3rd spot in 4:29.42. Wilson easily pulled away to secure 4th in 4:33.55. Hayes held the 5th position in 4:37.27, and Philip Barbour's Noah Ward just slipped by Carlson for 6th 4:38.31 to 4:38.69.
RunWV's Current Score: 23 of 30.

3200 Meter Run
Winfield's Aaron Withrow moved to the front right at the beginning and held that lead through the 1st lap, passing in 1:07. Robert C. Byrd's Danah Phillips was in 2nd at 1:08. That time was matched by Philip Barbour's Noah Ward, Point Pleasant's Luke Wilson, Elkins' Mason Clark, and Fairmont Senior's Caleb Carlson in spots 3 through 6, respectively. Withrow opened a slight gap on the 2nd lap, passing in 2:18. Phillips and Ward held the next two spots with both coming through in 2:20. Lumadue was in 4th at 2:21. Clark was in 5th at 2:22 with Carlson matching that time in 6th. On lap 3, Withrow extended his advantage to 5 seconds at 3:29. The battle for 2nd was still very tight with the next five all within about 2 meters of each other with Ward in 2nd, Phillips in 3rd, and Lumadue in 4th at 3:34, and Carlson in 5th and Clark in 6th at 3:35. At the midway point, Withrow had pushed his lead to 7 seconds at 4:42. The fight for 2nd was starting to stretch a little with Phillips back into 2nd at 4:49 and Lumadue matching that time in 3rd. Clark was in 4th at 4:50 with Ward in 5th at 4:51 and Carlson matching that time in 6th. On lap 5, Withrow pushed the lead out to 10 seconds at 5:55. Phillips and Lumadue had broken away from the pack in the fight for 2nd with both coming through in 6:05. Clark was in 4th at 6:07. Ward was in 5th at 6:09 and Wilson back up to 6th with the same time. There were now 4 runners fighting for the 5th spot. Withrow continued to push his advantage on lap 6, coming through in 7:11. Phillips and Lumadue continued the fight for 2nd at 7:22 with Phillips continuing to lead. They had broken well away now. Wilson had moved up to 4th in 7:29 with Clark in 5th at 7:30 and Carlson matching that time in 6th. Withrow was in cruise control at this point with no need to push, finishign lap 7 at 8:26. Lumadue had started a push dropping the pace from a 1:17 6th lap to 1:11 on lap 7, and he had taken control of 2nd at 8:33. Phillips was in 3rd at 8:36. There were still 4 in contention for the final 3 spots, but Wilson had started to get away at 8:48. Carlson was in 5th at 8:49 with Bridgeport's Jackson Jacobs moving into 6th at 8:51. Withrow continued to cruise the final lap in 1:13 to take the win in 9:40.08. Lumadue continued his late push, taking the last lap in 1:08 to make it a little close in 9:41.49. Phillips easily held the 3rd spot in 9:46.88. Wilson continued to pull away for 4th, finishing in 9:58.24. Carlson held off Jacobs for 5th 10:03.88 to 10:04.17.
RunWV's Current Score: 28 of 36.

110 Meter High Hurdles
Roane's Haden Coon and Bridgeport's Braeden Oldaker waged quite the battle with Coon finally taking the edge off the 9th hurdle and easing in just ahead of Oldaker, 14.97 to 15.01. The two were well ahead of the field. Lincoln's Jonathan Leep took the 3rd spot in 15.90, and the Weir pair of Keyshawn Faulks and Brandon Clausell were the last ones in under 16 seconds in taking 4th and 5th, respectively in 15.97 and 15.98. One of my predicted placers Qualified 3rd, but did not run the finals.
RunWV's Current Score: 32 of 42.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Roane's Haden Coon led comfortably coming out of the turn (not that there's anyting comfortable about the 300's), but had to hold off a late push by Weir's Keyshawn Faulks with both coming in well under 40 seconds, Coon in 39.32 and Faulks in 39.51. Bridgeport's Braeden Oldaker grabbed 3rd from the 1st heat in 40.28. Shady Spring's Joe Cantley was 4th in 40.50. Independence's Josh Sauls was 5th in 41.19, and Shady Spring's Jacob Neal took 6th from the 1st heat in 41.94.
RunWV's Current Score: 35 of 48.

4x100 Meter Relay
Weir's Sebastian Spencer came from well back to lead the foursome of Jaylon Bridges, Keyshawn Faulks, Quincy Dameron, and Sebastian Spencer to the win in 44.01. Winfield was 2nd in 44.36. Philip Barbour took the 3rd spot in 44.60. Nitro was 4th in 44.83. No one else was under 45 seconds, but Independence and Point Pleasant were close in 45.11 and 45.14, respectively. One of my predicted placers scratched from the event and another did not finish. Bridgeport was leading the event heading into the final exchange, but it appears that the two runners got tangled up in the exchange, and they went down hard.
RunWV's Current Score: 39 of 54.

4x200 Meter Relay
Weir got a strong anchor leg from Sebastian Spencer to come from slightly behind to win it going away in a blistering 130.00, which gives the group of Jaylon Bridges, Jake McCoy, Quincy Dameron, and Sebastian Spencer the 3rd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Bridgeport held off Winfield for 2nd, 1:31.62 to 1:31.70. Shady Spring was an easy 4th in 1:32.54. Frankfort nipped Fairmont Senior for 5th, 1:34.11 to 1:34.21.
RunWV's Current Score: 44 of 60.

4x400 Meter Relay
Winfield led it through the opening leg at 52.3 seconds with Elkins in 2nd, Bridgeport in 3rd, Keyser in 4th, Oak Glen in 5th, and Shady Spring in 6th. On the 2nd leg, Keyser made a brief push into the lead before Winfield took it back, pulling away toward the end of the leg, coming through at 1:44.0. Bridgeport had moved into 2nd at 1:46 with Keyser in 3rd at 1:47. I think it was Elkins still in 4th at 1:48 with Shady Spring matching that time in 5th. Oak Glen was in 6th in 1:49. On the 3rd leg, Bridgeport moved into the lead coming down the stretch, but Winfield took it back right before the handoff and led to the line at 2:37.8. Bridgeport was in 2nd at 2:38. Keyser was in 3rd at 2:40. Shady Spring had a slight edge over Oak Glen for 4th with both at 2:42. Elkins was in 6th at 2:44. On the final leg, Winfield opened a small gap on Bridgeport down the backstretch and just held off the final push of Bridgeport to give the squad of Jackson VanScoy, Eric Boggess, Aaron Withrow, and Phillip Englund the win in 3:29.80 to Bridgeport's 3:30.31. Keyser held the 3rd spot in 3:32.22 with Shady Spring 5th in 3:34.83. Wyoming East snared 5th from the 1st heat in 3:35.36 with Elkins nipping Oak Glen at the line for 6th, 3:36.34 to 3:36.35.
RunWV's Current Score: 49 of 66.

4x800 Meter Relay
East Fairmont took the early lead at 2:02. Bridgeport was 2nd at 2:05. Elkins was in 3rd at 2:06. Fairmont Senior was in 4th, also at 2:06. North Marion was in 5th at 2:08, and Philip Barbour was in 6th, also at 2:08. On the 2nd leg, it was still East Fairmont in the lead at 4:07. Bridgeport had briefly taken it, but East Fairmont got it back before the line. Bridgeport joined them at 4:07. Fairmont Senior was in 3rd at 4:11. Those three teams had generated significant separation from the field. Elkins was in 4th at 4:17. I think it was North Marion and PikeView in 5th and 6th, respectively at 4:23. On the 3rd leg, Bridgeport took over lead duties and generated a gap, coming through in 6:14. East Fairmont was in 2nd at 6:16, having retaken the spot after losing it to Fairmont Senior during the leg. Fairmont Senior was in 3rd at 6:18. North Marion had taken control of 4th in 6:31. Philip Barbour was in 5th at 6:34 with Elkins in 6th at 6:36 despite a handoff that involved a 360 by the outgoing runner. On the final leg, Bridgeport was not threatened and the foursome of Mark Duez, Logan Carr, Coleton Marsh, and Hunter Hutson went on to win by over 4 seconds in 8:16.36. Fairmont Senior made the pass on East Fairmont before the end of the 1st lap and move on out to secure 2nd in 8:20.78. East Fairmont easily held 3rd in 8:23.19. North Marion was never threatened for 4th, finishing in 8:35.79. The race for 5th got very interesting with 4 teams within 2 meters heading into the last lap, and another on the prowl. Eventually, two of those teams separated with Philip Barbour pulling away for 5th in 8:40.53, and PikeView holding on for 6th in 8:42.45, just holding off Oak Glen, who had moved up from 9th to make things interesting.
RunWV's Current Score: 54 of 72.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Fairmont Senior's foursome of Conner Rush, Caleb Parsons, John Smith, and Daxx Leonard took control on the 2nd leg and held off a late push from Roane, who got a blazing anchor leg from Haden Coon. Fairmont Senior's 57.31 is the 3rd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Roane's 57.56 is the 6th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Bridgeport easily held onto the 3rd spot in 58.81. Only Independence with their 59.72, was under 1:01.7 among the rest of the field.
RunWV's Current Score: 59 of 78.

High Jump
Nitro's Luke Nichols was the only jumper to go higher than 6'2, clearing 6'8 on his 1st attempt. That's good enough to tie for the 9th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and tie for the 4th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Only Wyoming East's Nick Woodrum was able to clear 6'2 among the rest of the field. Roane's Austin McGinnis and Lewis County's Logan Cogar cleared 6'0 in getting the tie for 3rd. Bridgeport's Tristan Shaw and Oak Hill's Michael Beasley cleared 5'10 in taking 5th and 6th, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 65 of 84.

Pole Vault
Roane's Haden Coon repeated as champion and was again the only one to clear 13'6 in doing so (and with no misses). He went straight to 15'1 but wasn't able to clear it. Bridgeport's Joshua Osborn was the only other vaulter to clear 13'0 in taking 2nd. Winfield teammates Greg Moore and Jacob Durgin cleared 12'6 in taking 3rd and 4th, respectively. Point Pleasant's Steven Trent and Berkeley Springs' Avery Lackey cleared 12'0 in taking 5th and 6th, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 71 of 90.

Long Jump
Oak Hill's Michael Beasley went 21'8 on his 5th jump (one of 4 over 21') to take the win. Roane's Austin McGinnis was 2nd with a 21'2.75. Fairmont Senior's John Smith moved up to 3rd on his final jump of 21'1. Bridgeport's Tristan Shaw opened with a 20'8 to take 4th. Oak Glen's Gage Patterson went 20'7.25 to take 5th, and Roane's Jordan Coon went 20'3 for 6th.
RunWV's Current Score: 76 of 96.

Shot Put
Bridgeport's Christopher Trent had already won the event but launched his last attempt 55'11.75 to seal the deal and give him the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Oak Glen's Kellen Tropeck had easily his best throw of the competition on his final attempt, getting a 52'4.50 for 2nd. Bridgeport's Mikah Swann got a 47'6 for 3rd. Keyser's Shayden Daugherty had a season best throw by 5' to take 4th with a 47'2. Keyser's Steven White was 5th with a 46'5.25. Point Pleasant's Eddie Mayes was 6th with a 45'9.25.
RunWV's Current Score: 80 of 102.

Discus
Oak Glen's Kellen Tropeck won the event by over 8' with a toss of 156'2. Keyser's Shayden Daugherty was 2nd with a 147'7. Weir's Ben Fedoush was 3rd with a 146'9. Bridgeport's Chris Trent got into the finals on a tie for the 8th position but sent his last throw 139'4 for 4th. Winfield's Joe Burchett edged Point Pleasant's Jesse Gleason for 5th, 135'2 to 135'1.
RunWV's Current Score: 85 of 108.

The final score of 85 of 108 means that 78.7% of the people picked to place did indeed place. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
